The Department of Agriculture (DA) reported more than ₱12.5 million in initial agricultural damage due to the recent onslaught of Typhoon Inday, affecting more than 500 hectares of farmland and over 1,000 farmers across four regions in Luzon and Visayas.
According to data from DA’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center, losses were recorded in CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, and Negros Island Region (NIR). Most of the losses came from rice, followed by corn and livestock.
The department assured that affected farmers will be given assistance in the form of rice, corn, and vegetable seeds. Moreover, drugs and biologics for livestock, as well as the Agricultural Credit Policy Council’s (ACPC) Survival and Recovery (SURE) Loan Program worth up to ₱25,000, may also be availed of without interest.
In relation to Typhoon Inday and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported a total of 20 fatalities, while only one has been validated to date.
